Located in the parish of Trelawny where the Martha Brae River meets the Caribbean Sea the phosphorescent water consists of millions of tiny harmless microorganisms called Dinoflagellates. These organisms live in the layers where salt and fresh water combine and glow the brightest in shallow, warm water. The center of the lagoon itself is less than 5 feet (1.5 meters) deep.
